Judd Trump 3-0 Matthew Stevens
72-43 (Trump 38), 81-0 (Trump 81), 67-30 (Trump 49)
JUDD TRUMP, making his debut in this year’s PartyPoker.com Premier League Snooker, took the honours in Event Five as he defeated Matthew Stevens in the final in less than 40 minutes to carry off a maximum six points from Hutton Moor Leisure Centre in Weston-super-Mare.
Playing in front of what was effectively his home crowd, Trump looked relaxed as he edged the first frame with a break of 38. A run of 81 in the next gave Judd a 2-0 lead as Stevens looked in trouble.
The Welshman who has had a good start to the league under the new format had chances in the next but he could not stem the Trump tide as the West Countryman ran in a 49 to take the match 3-0.
“I’m delighted really, coming into the event so late,” said Trump.
“That’s a good start and I need to get back in the mix over the next couple of weeks to get up there.”
“The second match is a lot easier; in the first you’re getting used to the conditions and there’s more pressure. In the second you can enjoy it.”
“Matt was playing the better snooker, he dominated the semi-final. It’s always important to get in front against the top players as it gives you the confidence.”
Trump next plays at Exeter on 20th October where he meets Ali Carter and will certainly be buoyed by that win. Next week the Premier League reconvenes in Stoke when Mark Williams meets Ali Carter and Jimmy White takes on Ding Junhui.
