Murphy marches through

Former world champion hits top break so far in Masters win

Shaun Murphy found some of his best form to breeze past martin Gould 6-2 at the Masters and move into the quarter-finals.

The Englishman joined Judd Trump as a winner on Monday as he hit two centuries at the Alexandra Palace and laid a marker down for the highest tournament break prize this week.

The former world champion knocked in a brilliant 139 to clinch the match and stand in the box seat for the £15,000 highest break bonus on offer as well as put in the performance of the Masters so far.

Gould himself had started well with a century break of his own to take the opening frame of the match, but it drew a stinging response from Murphy who rattled off the next four frames including a break of 107.

Gould did stop the rot with a break of 79 getting his second frame on the board, but Murphy was in the groove and duly got up to land runs of 89 and that 139 to set up a last-eight clash with either Mark Selby or Stephen Lee. - http://www1.skysports.com/
