SNOOKER news 1/22

Robertson to face Murphy

Aussie inspired by boorish crowd behaviour

Neil Robertson put his frustrations with the crowd to one side as he beat Judd Trump 6-3 to reach the final of the BGC Masters.

The Australian, who will face Shaun Murphy in Sunday's title decider, was annoyed by cheers from fans when Trump fluked shots but said afterwards that the incidents simply acted as inspiration.

"If anything it made me play better," Robertson told BBC Sport. "It's disappointing because Judd is a fantastic lad and he is nothing like those guys."

In what was a scrappy match, it was Robertson who took his chances the better.

Robertson raced into a 2-0 lead but a 76 break from Trump in frame three saw him get on the scoreboard.
Robertson took the next with a run of 89 and when he edged the fifth frame and grabbed the sixth he held a 5-1 advantage,.

Trump raised hopes of a miraculous comeback by winning two frames in a row but a missed blue in what turned out to be the final frame proved costly.

Robertson admitted he was surprised Trump kept going for his shots rather than adapting his style of play.
"It was interesting because he kept going for it and going for it. I thought I played really good match play snooker and thankfully he missed a couple today."

Murphy was never headed as he played some sparkling snooker to beat world champion John Higgins 6-4.
The man from Rotherham made three centuries but the match looked to be heading for decider before Higgins missed the final pink along the rail.

That left Murphy a simple long pot with the pink over the pocket, which he duly despatched to set up a meeting with Robertson. - http://www1.skysports.com/
