Steve Davis once again came up just short in the World Seniors Championship, going down to Darren Morgan in the final. Having already ended the reign of defending champion Jimmy White in the semi-finals, Welshman Morgan continued his fine run of form at the East of England Showground in Peterborough by seeing off 'The Nugget' in the best-of-three-frame format.However he had to do it the hard way, the former world amateur champion coming back from a 1-0 down to claim the title and the £18,000 cheque.
Davis made the most of an error by his opponent, who missed an easy red to the middle pocket when on 24, to strike first with a break of 72.
Morgan responded in style though, a run of 86, which at one stage saw him on course for a 147 maximum as he potted eight reds and eight blacks, levelling matters.
He then comfortably took the decider, a break of 60 sealing victory for the former world amateur champion at the East of England Showground in Peterborough.
Davis was philosophical after losing the final for a second successive year, admitting that he didn't respond well under pressure in the last frame.
"I butchered a couple of shots in the last and Darren held himself together," he admitted. "I'm the one who is supposed to be playing on the main tour, so it just shows how well he has played."
Morgan had ended White's hopes of defending his crown with a 2-0 win to set up a showdown with Davis, who had beaten good friend John Parrott by the same scoreline in the first semi-final.- http://www.sportinglife.com
