JOE JOGIA WITHDRAWS FROM SHOOT-OUT

Joe Jogia has withdrawn from his Snooker Shoot-Out match against Matthew Selt in Blackpool on Saturday with a leg injury.

The match is the subject of an investigation by the sport's governing body the World Professional Billiards and Snooker Association (WPBSA) after a bookmaker reported it had been the subject of unusual betting patterns.
It is understood an unusually large number of small bets were placed on Selt to win the match with various bookmakers.
World Snooker confirmed that Jogia had withdrawn from the tournament on medical grounds, and he will now be replaced by Rod Lawler in the match against Selt.
WPBSA chairman Jason Ferguson said the investigation into the match by the association's Integrity Unit would continue.
"I have spoken to Joe on a couple of occasions. He has confirmed that he has a leg injury which I'm aware that other people are aware of," said Ferguson.
"His withdrawal is on medical grounds and he will have to present a doctor's note to us following his withdrawal from the event." - http://www.sportinglife.com/

Left-hander sees off former world champ Dott in Blackpool final

Barry Hawkins clinched the 2012 Snooker Shoot-Out crown after overcoming former world champion Graeme Dott in Sunday's final.

The 32-year-old from Kent received a cheque for £32,000 for coming out on top in the 10-minute battle, with his opening break of 46 enough to give him a lead he would not surrender.

Hawkins had booked his place in the final with a win over veteran Dave Harrold, while Dott - who won at the Crucible in 2004 - saw off Leicester's Tom Ford in another tight semi-final.

"I'm not used to being a champion. It's only one frame but it's still a win," Hawkins told Sky Sports afterwards.

"Even at 50 in front with two minutes left I was worried but I'm delighted. I'm getting married in the summer so the money will come in handy!"

Hawkins had earlier made a break of 55 as he took on Harold in the first-semi-final, with the Stoke veteran running out of time as he lost 56-30.

Scotsman Dott has looked in control against Ford as he made a break of 51 before missing an easy black.

Ford looked to have the match in his grasp as he responded with 31, but missed a black off the spot to hand the match to Dott.

Londoner Martin Gould claimed the £2,000 prize for the highest break of the tournament - a superb 135 in his third-round clash with Jamie Jones. - http://www1.skysports.com/

Several big names lost on day two of the PartyPoker.com Snooker Shootout in Blackpool on Saturday. 

World champion John Higgins was among those missing out, falling to Mark Allen in the final match of the night.

The quickfire matches whittled the competition down to just 16 by the end of the day, with Higgins going down 67-34 after Allen took control with a decisive break of 55.

World number one Mark Selby was also sent packing in a scrappy match with Dominic Dale, who was a 31-22 winner after Selby botched a tricky red in the closing minute.

The well-fancied world number two Mark Williams suffered a similar fate, beaten 50-28 by Barry Pinches following a match-winning break worth 45.

Former world champion Stephen Hendry was beaten 69-30 by Gerard Greene after apparently forgetting a rule about safety shots having to hit cushions, with a similar problem seemingly accounting for Matthew Selt, who was defeated 63-39 by Tom Ford.

Liang Wenbo, the only remaining non-Briton in the competition, will be confident of his chances after a controlled break saw him claim a 54-0 success over Matthew Stevens. 

Stephen Lee will also be in high spirits as he heads into the last 16 after he compiled the only century of the weekend so far in his 121-6 beating of Ricky Walden.
